This phrase is ironic because I asked myself this question, as I am sure you have. Can we say “healthcare” is provided at medical institutions throughout T&T? There are many sad stories of malpractice by doctors resulting in the loss of loved ones. These doctors often try to cover up the errors they have made. It is sad that many families are stricken with grief because of errors.
Doctors have to live with their errors, that is a punishment itself, but they also need to account for these errors. Investigations must ensue and those doctors who are found guilty be fired.
Doctors are not the only ones to blame but also nurses who treat patients not like human beings, but like animals. There are instances where the elderly and the sick are mistreated. Patients can be difficult but they still need to be taken care of.
Maybe it is that they see this as just a paycheck and not that of a human being who is put in their hands to be cared for. Sympathy and compassion are needed and should be natural to all human beings.
It is true nurses are not paid well and work long hours but when such people became certified this was part of the job requirements. All that citizens ask of nurses is to treat the sick with respect and dignity.
