A little-known birding phenomenon occurs annually in the skies off the south west coast of Tobago. Every year between March 18 and 28, hundreds of broad-winged hawks may be seen during their annual Spring migration from their wintering homes in South America to North America.

The best views of this phenomenon may be had as the hawks fly over the sea south-west of Tobago in the vicinity of the Buccoo Reef, Crown Point, Pigeon Point and Plymouth Point.

Resident bird-watcher Matt Kelly is reminding all bird-watchers and other interested people to be on the alert for the hawks on their annual migration.

His contact numbers are 461-3741 and mobile 472-1729 and that of the “lookout,” Tony the outdoor artist at Pigeon Point, 796-1622.
