Highway cleared, now remove rubbish

Just before Carnival, there were several “armies” of Cepep workers along the full length of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway stretching from the Piarco Intersection to Port-of-Spain. This was most welcome!

Afterwards, some parts of the highway was also visited by graders which had been working along the verges (which had become overgrown with grass), as well as clearing drains along its path.

Unfortunately, the highway has been left with several mounds of debris and rubbish in several areas resulting from both operations suggesting that their removal might not be a priority now that Carnival has passed.

I must say that there is much still to be done to bring the appearance of this gateway to our capital city to an acceptable standard. This includes the replacement of lighting fixtures in several areas and the removal of unsightly structures along the highway.

These are, of course, matters for the attention of the Minister of Works and Transport.
