As I sat on my lunch break under the shady trees of Faculty of Medical Sciences, Mt Hope, enjoying my beef pie, along came a puppy with the cutest begging-eyes anyone could ever imagine.
Of course, this was because she was starving and her last meal was probably the last time she could find anything in the garbage behind the buildings.
Needless to say, I lost my lunch and I really didn’t mind. When she was satisfied, she left me behind and wandered off under some smaller trees closer to nursing school to peacefully digest her better-than-normal meal, when out of nowhere came a grey-haired lecturer who launched a huge missile (rock) at her.
You would expect better of an “educated” man. Stray dogs are not a usual occurrence at the school but you would not expect this obscene level of treatment with the situation. If this is the way we treat our animals, no wonder we have no compassion for other human beings.
I am deeply saddened by this situation and extremely hurt, not for the dog, because she wasn’t hit by the stone, but for the man because God is watching.
