Every Wednesday morning, promptly at 6 o’clock, T&T Guardian distributors set out to deliver the newspapers which contain the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) Practice Test supplements to 30 schools throughout the remote North Eastern education district.
The schools include Biche Presbyterian, Sangre Grande Roman Catholic, Plum Mitan Presbyterian, Sans Souci Roman Catholic, Valencia Roman Catholic, Toco Anglican, Oropouche Roman Catholic, Nariva North Government, Matura Government and Matelot Roman Catholic primary schools.
This special initiative, which began last year, aims to equip the students with the necessary tools to better prepare for the SEA, which takes place on May 5 this year.
The SEA Practice Test comprises a list of Mathematics and Language Arts questions and answers designed to give students an extra boost in preparing for the examination. Camille Campbell, chief marketing officer ag, TSTT, said the blink/Bmobile Foundation continues to place significant emphasis on youth and youth development, as it strives to bring about meaningful, positive changes to the communities it serves.
“In line with our dedication to the country’s growth and development, the blink|bmobile Foundation thought it was apt to help provide these schools with the SEA supplements as we recognise the need to encourage and motivate our youth, from an early age. We are also aware that SEA is one of the most important milestones in a child’s educational journey so we are doing our part to help the students achieve their future goals, which can only ultimately be accomplished with a sound education.”
Avellon Williams, in charge of distribution and marketing at the T&T Guardian, agrees. Williams, who keeps in touch with teachers at the various schools says the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and both students and teachers are thankful to the Foundation, especially since they sometimes feel neglected because of their remote locations.
“The teachers are very happy and have been reporting marked improvements in their students’ performances from doing the practice tests. They have been sending pictures of the children reading the newspapers in the classrooms so it is encouraging them to be more interested in reading as well,” she said.
