The Central Zonal Council of the T&T Cricket Board is encouraging all interested Under-19 cricketers to vie for selection for the national inter-zone competition which gets underway on March 24.
Mishri Lutchmedial, an official of the Central Zone, said that in anticipation of a keen response from the young cricketers, three venues have been selected for the short-listing of the squad on Tuesday (March 1).
Tuesday’s screening sessions, which will get underway at 3.30 pm, will be supervised by zonal co-ordinators. At the Balmain United Recreation Ground, the cricketers will be under the guidance of Mishri Lutchmedial, Brent Morgan and Brent Guiseppi. At the Munroe Road Recreation Ground Richard Sieuchan and Robert Mahabir will be in charge, while at Presentation College, Chaguanas Lalman Kowlessar and Deonarine Deyal will be giving out instructions to the cricketers.
Lutchmedial, president of Balmain United Cricket Club said the Central Zonal Council is urging all cricketers especially from the secondary schools and those who play for cricket clubs to turn out for screening. He said that selection on the zonal team will open up opportunities for them to develop into future stars of the sport at a national and regional level.
“Cricket is alive in the central region and the zone will be aiming to go one better after having emerged runners-up in the Under-19 competition last season,” said Lutchmedial.
