Former national youth cricketer Brandon Jaggernauth continued his solid form as newly promoted Fyzabad Secondary maintained its perfect record in the Premier Division of the Powergen Secondary Schools 50-over Cricket League (SSCL) at the Evergreen Ground in San Francique, yesterday.
Right-handed Jaggernauth top scored with 76 to lead Fyzabad to a 50-run win over Hillview, its second win in as many matches this season. Jaggernauth’s knock, which came off just 70 balls and included five sixes and five fours, guided Fyzabad to 203/9 in the 46-over match. The match was reduced to 46 overs as Hillview only completed 46 overs at 1.30 pm which is the time scheduled to complete the 50 overs. Darron Rampersad also showed form with the bat scoring 50. Bowling for Hillview, Kareem Muradali tried his best to contain the Fyzabad bowlers snatching 4/31.
In reply, Hillview was dismissed for 153 in 34.2 overs behind 34 from Jonathan Hosein. The Hillview batsmen were undone by Gabriel Blackwell (3/22) and Daniel Chaitram (3/38), as both bowlers took three wickets. Young spinner Kyle Phirangee also got into the action grabbing 2/30 in five overs. Phirangee, who is just 13 years old in Form two, picked up 3/35 in round one last week.
In another match, defending champions Naparima lost its second consecutive match after falling by three wickets to Trinity College East.
Barrackpore West got the better of Vishnu Boys by six wickets and Fatima crushed Presentation College, Chaguanas by 182 runs.
