Caribbean Airlines (CAL) chairman Philip Marshall yesterday pledged to use the carrier’s Caribbean base to bring more investors and tourists to the region.

“In this regard, we stand ready to collaborate more closely with the Ministry of Tourism and the Guyana Tourism Authority to encourage non-Diaspora visitors to this vast and wonderful country,” he said, during the unveiling of a 50th Anniversary of Independence logo on a CAL at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana yesterday.

Marshall said the airline, which is just shy of its tenth anniversary, has a strategic role within the region and is committed to using its influence “to connect, unite, energise and uplift the people of the Caribbean.”

He said CAL is Guyana’s flag carrier and since the carrier’s inception in 2007 has enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship with the people of Guyana and the Guyanese Diaspora. The airline has an average of six daily flights and carries over 350,000 passengers to and from Guyana annually.

“Our Guyana station is one of Caribbean Airlines top performers, with an impressive on-time performance record and a reputation for efficient aircraft turnaround times. Our team of reservations, maintenance and engineering, sales and airport employees is made up of Guyanese nationals who work diligently to keep the flags of Guyana and Caribbean Airlines flying high with their consistent delivery of quality service to our customers at our ticket office in Georgetown and here at Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

“We are indeed proud and heartened by their commitment and dedication,” he said.

Marshall said CAL has dedicated three aircraft in its Boeing 737 fleet to bear the decal of the 50th anniversary logo, which represents one of that country’s national animals – the Felis Pantera or Guyanese Jaguar.
