Kamla Persad-Bissessar must do more to reassure the country that the UNC internal election will be free and fair.
There are still persistent reports that the electoral list is not available to contestants in the election.
Dr Tim Gopeesingh, who has filed his nomination papers, has made such a claim.
In addition, several party people are saying they are seeing the general secretary at campaign meetings and other activities of Ms Persad-Bissessar.
As an attorney, Ms Persad-Bissessar must know that justice must not only be done but also appear to be done.
There are also questions about the alleged partiality of at least one member of the election oversight committee.
Ms Persad-Bissessar, as incumbent leader and a former prime minister, must know that her legacy is at stake here.
Surely, she does not want to be accused of stealing a party election, especially at a time when she is making a similar allegation, with respect to the general election, of the Elections and Boundaries Commission.
By the way, when will she announce candidates for the two upcoming municipal elections?
