A 20-year-old man from Morvant appeared in court this afternoon charged with the murder of 50-year-old prison superintendent, David Millette. However, he will not be sent to the Golden Grove Remand Yard.
Sean “Devil” Coa appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar in the Port-of-Spain Eighth Magistrates’ Court almost 24 hours after Millette’s funeral.
A handcuffed Coa gestured to media personnel by extending his middle finger as he was being led into the St Vincent Street courthouse by police. However, he stood silently in the prison enclosure of the court as Ayers-Caesar read the charges.
Coa is accused of murdering Millette together with a group of unknown people on November 2. Millette, who had more than 20 years service was shot dead as he was entering his car in front of his Cipriani Avenue, Second Caledonia home. He was on vacation leave at the time.
Coa was also slapped with charges for being in possession of a gun and ammunition and for possessing the illegal items with intent to endanger life. He was not called upon to plead as the charges are indictable.
Before the case was adjourned to December 10, Coa’s attorney Criston J Williams indicated that his client did not want to be remanded at the Golden Grove State Prison in Arouca as he had received death threats from Millette’s colleagues who worked there.
Ayers-Caesar agreed and granted his request.
