Traffic on Wrightson Road has always been slow. Somewhere between October 8 and October 13 something happened—the eastbound traffic got considerably worse.
The eastbound traffic between the National Stadium and Colville Street has always been slow ever since the traffic system on Wrightson Road was changed to limit the number of cross traffic flows to specific junctions. For example, north to south on French Street and south to north on Colville. However, this change made sense and although slow, it prevented gridlocks and the system has worked as well as can be expected given the volume of vehicles using the roadways in that area.
I observed that this dramatically changed sometime in early October with the eastbound traffic becoming less than walking speed between the Stadium and Colville Street, whether it be morning or evening.
However, on two occasions of travelling the eastbound lane of Wrightson Road between October and now, it was a breeze. Lo and behold, on arriving at the Colville intersection on both those occasions there was a motorcycle cop managing the traffic at that intersection. I promptly wound down my window and gave him a thumbs up.
It is my opinion that the timing of the traffic lights controlling the four intersections at Colville and Wrightson, Colville and Ariapita, French and Ariapita, and French and Wrightson were adjusted in early October and this is causing more harm than good.
I am therefore appealing to the responsible authorities to have these traffic control lights returned to what worked better for several years until better can be done.
