Maniram man handles Pres

Barrackpore West and Carapichaima East will square off in the final of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Intercol T20 final again, after Barrackpore West defeated Presentation College Chaguanas by 56 runs in the semifinals at the National Cricket Centre (NCC), Balmain, Couva, on Friday night.

The final, which will be played next Friday at NCC from 6 pm, will be a rematch of the 2014 final when Barrackpore West defeated Carapichaima East by five runs at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre. Carapichaima East sealed a spot in the final with a one wicket win over Naparima in the first semifinal at NCC on Thursday.

Batting first on Friday, Barrackpore West posted a competitive 142/5 behind 43 from former national youth cricketer Jeron Maniram. Maniram, who faced 25 balls, was ably supported by Steven Cyrus who scored 25. Bowling for Presentation national youth cricketer Matthew Patrick was the best bowler snatching 2/17 in four overs.

In reply, Presentation was dismissed for 86 in 17.1 overs as Michael Dindial (3/11) and Maniram (3/16) both took three wickets. Saleem Gopaul fought hard for Presentation with a top score of 23.
