The first ever Championship Drag Racing Series in T&T will speed off next weekend (Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1st May) at the Frankie Boodram Raceway at Wallerfield, Cumuto from 10 a.m. The driving force behind the historic five event series is Rishi Kanick, a Pro Racer with a personal fastest time of 5.26 seconds running at 274 km/hr in a Top Alcohol Dragster in North Carolina, USA, some years ago.

At the official media launch of the series at the Rio Claro room at HYATT on Friday, Kanick said, “With a championship, drivers and crews can look forward to a controlled, coordinated series with professional competitive spirit for this year.  It should motivate some positive energy back into the sport especially with the $25,000 Jackpot to the first racer running a seven seconds pass.

This jackpot has never been offered before and will be good news to all and sundry up for the challenge.” Kanick noted that this series is the first of its kind to specifically treat the racers with cash prizes for popular race brackets on the weekend. At least $5,000 will be up for grabs for all registered classes e.g. fastest V8, six cylinder, 4 cylinder, Rotary, Bikes, Exotic car shootout and a top prize of $10,000 for 4WD shootout.

Members of Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sport Association (TTASA) will ensure Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) regulations are maintained for a safe and secure competition. All race teams are encouraged to pre-register for the event and the public are invited to call 682-3468, 389-6712 for more information.
