Kyle Phillip came up with an all-round effort as Carapichaima East defeated defending PowerGen Secondary Schools Intercol T20 champions Fatima by three wickets in the quarterfinals at Exchange Ground in Couva, on Thursday night.
Chasing 142 for victory, Carapichaima East was reduced to 87/6 but Phillip came to his team’s rescue. He slammed an aggressive unbeaten 30 off 16 balls to guide Carapichaima East to 143/7 in 19.3 overs. Phillip, who cracked three sixes and two fours, shared in match winning partnership of 48 for the seventh wicket with Nathaneal Ramcharitar who scored 13.
Needing seven off the last over Phillip finished the match with two boundaries. Shawn Vialva also played a vital knock scoring 39, while Amir Jangoo more recognized for his batting, grabbed 4/15.
Earlier, Jangoo struck 67 to guide Fatima to 141/8 batting first. Phillip took 2/30, while his cousin and national youth cricketer Anderson Phillip snatched 2/17.
Also booking a place in the semifinals were Barrackpore West, Presentation Chaguanas and last year’s losing finalist Naparima. Naparima will face Carapichaima East in the first semifinal at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Couva on Thursday, while Presentation and Barrackpore West will play on Friday in the second semifinal at the same venue. Both semifinal matches bowl off at 6 pm. The final will be played on May 6 at NCC.
