It is important that things are placed in the right perspective and that those who do not know must remain silent until the facts are revealed. For starters, I am not too sure why Mr Brian Lewis of the T&T Olympic Committee is making comments at this time.
I am sure that the Gymnastics Federation has not nominated Ms Dick and her entourage to the TTOC up to this moment. I am not sure why Mr Lewis is quoting regulations about who has the final say about who gets to go to Rio 2016.
I hope that Mr Lewis and TTOC are not planning to not recommend her for Rio 2016. That will be a big mistake. What I am sure about is that the only representative to Rio 2016 is Ms Dick and she should be congratulated for making the qualifying cut.
I hope that more people will concentrate on congratulating her on this feat and on being the first T&T gymnast at the Olympics. Participation at most events of the Olympics require that the athlete meet a minimum standard and all athletes who meet this standard should be recommended on the team to Rio 2016.
I thus ask all, including Mr Lewis and TTOC, to be positive to the qualifying athletes. I also ask all to leave Ms Williams and her legal team to sort out their matters with the Gymnastics Federation, especially since the Gymnastics Federation is yet to give their side of the story.
More importantly, I want to ask all to refrain from the racial comments that are being made, whether literally, figuratively or subtle.
Again, congratulations to Ms Dick and her team and best wishes in Rio 2016.
