In three weeks Finance Minister Colm Imbert will meet with three associations representing workers under the National Security Ministry that have rejected Government’s proposal to pay 50 per cent of their back pay in bonds by the end of September.

Imbert made the statement on CNC3 on Wednesday night, hours after the Police Service Social and Welfare Association (PSSWA) held a joint press conference with officers from Prisons Officers Association and Fire Services Association to reject the minister’s offer of the bonds, which he presented in his mid-year review last Friday.

The three association described the offer as “unacceptable, disrespectful and disenchanting.”

Instead the associations asked for land and houses to be given to them.

In response to the threat, Imbert said “I do not anticipate any problems” since held discussions with PSSWA’s president Anand Ramesar after the press conference.

“I will be meeting with them in two weeks’ time to sort out the issues.”

Imbert did not say if he would change his mind on not paying the bonds.

“I am going to listen to them. I think they have some proposals some of which are quite innovative, for example, deposits on HDC houses. So I am going with an open mind to speak with them to hear what they have to say.”

Imbert said he had a good relationship with the associations.
