I have no joy in saying this despite what Mr Colm Imbert has said about the government winning the war against crime in this country. No government will ever win against the criminals here unless they take draconian measures and also reinstate the death penalty, or seek outside help.
As far as the records show our politicians, past and present, are quite prepared to leave it to the police to deal and resolve our crime problem. As long as there is no deterrent to stop potential killers to think before they pull the trigger there will be no let-up in the random slaughter of innocent citizens.
Moreover, unless the judiciary set an example by dealing with those of status who are guilty of corruption in a robust, punitive manner the criminals will take no notice of any threats made by our politicians or police.
Imbert, like so many of his predecessors, is only offering lip service.
