After every election we hear and read of the misdeeds of the previous government from the new incumbent such as corruption, nepotism incompetence and mismanagement.
We have quite recently experienced from a preceding government, all of the above, including a new evil, that of mass Kleptomania, (a strong impulse to steal when there is no obvious motivation), from the leadership and filtering down to all sectors in that government.
T&T had become a Kleptocracy, (Government of thieves who use the country’s natural resources for personal gain inclusive of family and friends). It is alleged that billions of dollars have been misappropriated, and yet no one has been brought to justice.
It is impossible that one person alone can steal millions and he or she alone is able to carry out the crime without someone having knowledge of the act and who didn’t share in this sinful largesse. This person, with the right incentive, will certainly disclose pertinent information which can lead to the arrest and conviction of that criminal. It is a suggestion that whistle-blower legislation be brought immediately to the fore and the whistle-blowers be given a reward, possibly a percentage of the misappropriated funds which have been recovered, or even for bringing these thieves to justice.
