Morvant Caledonia United (MCU) and W Connection played to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night in the Digicel Pro League, in what was also a preview of their upcoming First Citizens Cup (FCC) semi-finals clash.

However with a result as such, it wouldn’t be absurd to think “sparring match” in preparation of the title-focused semi-final clash of the FCC from 6 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium tomorrow, following which two-time defending champions Central FC and Club Sando will tackle each other in semi-final two from 8 pm.

Unlike Tuesday, tomorrow’s clash must produce a winning side for the FCC show to progress, even if it means a penalty shootout at the end of regulation time.

Morvant Caledonia United, FCC champions in 2011 and 2012, defeated Defence Force 2-1 last Sunday in quarter-finals day two at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.

MCU coach Jerry Moe said the win was very important for his side, currently in transition with a number of young players.

He also said MCU were outstanding in the first half and although dropping the pace a bit in the second, his side deserved the win.

“It’s good for us to advance,” Moe added. “Going forward into the semi-finals is a good thing for Caledonia because that’s where we want to be. It brings more marketing/mileage for the club. So the further we go it’s always good for us.”

The MCU coach also said back then, “W Connection (on Tuesday) and W Connection (on Friday). It is business we will prepare for.

“We are finished with Army and we will prepare for W Connection beginning with the game on Tuesday.”

Meanwhile W Connection, who won the FCC an incredible six times but last had their hands on the trophy in 2008, were 3-1 winners over Point Fortin Civic on Saturday in quarter-final day one at Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin.

“Point is always a difficult place to come and 3-1 is a convincing win,” said W Connection coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier following the win.

“We are still trying to get our form better. Knock-out games are always a bit different but we had today’s (Saturday) game and will have the game on Tuesday, so by Friday we should be better in terms of our rhythm.”

Charles-Fevrier, in his usually calm but confident deportment, said, “Every game we take seriously and want to win. So we are going into the game very positive.

“Caledonia are very good opponents and we know it will not be an easy game. But we will be prepared for (the semi-finals).”
