The Calypsopera Cafe will hold auditions for the production of The Carnival is Over, a semi-ficticious musical based on the life and times of the late Aldwyn Roberts, the Lord Kitchener.

The venue for the auditions is The Opera Cafe, at the courtyard of The Bob’s Sweet Lanyap, 13 Cipriani Boulevard, Port-of-Spain (opposite Jenny’s on the Boulevard, close to Mario’s Pizza), on both days.

Auditions will be held for singers, actors, dancers and musicians on March 18, from 4 pm to 8 pm, and March 19, from 10 am to 8 pm. A release said there will be a form to be filled out with the relevant details and auditionees are asked to walk with a resume of no more than 100 words about their performing history, if any.

There is no age group for these auditions and professional and talented performers are encouraged to attend. There will be a community chorus for all performers to join. Callbacks will take place on April 8. A performance workshop will take place in November 2016 for one month.

Full performance rehearsals will begin in January 2017 for six weeks, with five performances beginning on the Thursday after Carnival 2017. The Carnival is Over was written by opera diva Anne Fridal who will also direct. The musical is staged in memory of T&T’s national icon Lord Kitchener and inspired by Dr Geraldine Connor.

The semi-fictitious storyline is based on the departure of the Lord Kitchener for London on the ship The Windrush in 1948, to his eventual return to Trinidad in 1962. The musical will include his experiences of life in England during those years and highlight the many diverse arrangements of compositions.

Artistic director Anne Fridal has worked in conjunction with Lord Kitchener’s family to make this production happen.
