The Bobby Persad owned and trained six—year—old mare Indian Medicine look set to return to winning ways in Saturday’s feature event— the Top of The Class Stakes more than 1,100 metres on the turf track at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.
Champion jockey Prayven Badrie will have the leg up on the speedy turf champion and with 51.5 kilos will take all the catching in the $100,000 purse event. The Glenn Mendez trained Swept Away which has been in great form will attempt to win her first race on the truf but she may find handing out three kilos to Indian medicine a bit too much. Former champion jockey Brian Boodramsing will be aboard Swept Away for owner Russell Ramsammy. Mendez will have a two—pronged ttack in the event and Dark Treasure which has a great record on the Turf Course will attempt to win yet again. Naim Samaroo will ride but he may find this trip on the sharp side.
Of the other runners in the eight horse field only Chase The Dragon has shown form on the Turf Course. Emile Ramsammy will take the reins buthe will have to rebound from two disappointing performances.
The 2014 Derby winner Momentum has class but has shown little on the grass track and with 57 kilos and Nobel Abrego astride can find a place though he does not look the same horse on the turf.
When entries were taken for the ARC Day 8 presentation a total of 87 horses took entry for the eight race card.
Post time for the first event is 1.15 pm.
