Central FC aims to extend winning run, lead

Central FC will be confident of extending its unbeaten run under interim coach Dale Saunders at the top of the Digicel T&T Pro League table when it faces Pt Fortin Civic at the Mahaica Oval, Pt Fortin from 6pm.

With this being the third and final round, the Kevon Carter Trophy Round, Central FC, coming off a 3-1 victory over St Ann’s Rangers on February 20 to lift the Akeem Adams Second Round Trophy will take an 11-game unbeaten streak into the contest.

However, Pt Fortin Civic had a morale boosting 2-0 win over Police FC also on February 20, and will be eager to stop the run of the table-leaders.

Central FC with 40 points from 18 matches to lead Defence Force by four points may also be tempted to introduce transfer window signings, forward Michael Yaw Darko and Samuel Delice, who last played for Cunupia FC and St Ann’s Rangers respectively as they look ahead to defending Caribbean Football Union Club Championship title with the start of their group qualifiers in Jamaica next week.

On the other hand, Pt Fortin has also boosted its squad during the transfer window period with the signings of three experienced campaigners in Sylvester Teesdale, Juma Clarence and Trent Lougheed as well as Jamal John and Daniel Smith and the promotion of youth squad pair, Nicholas Thomas and Shaquille Dublin to the senior squad.

At the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, from 6pm, Defence Force which edged Morvant Caledonia United 2-1 in its last outing will be hoping to keep the pressure on the front-runners with a win of its against a plucky Rangers, which despite being bottom of the table has caused a few problems for opponents.

Defence Force won the Round One Rawle Fletcher title. And in the second match at Couva, Club Sando which stunned defending champions DirecTV W Connection 2-0 last time out, its second win over the same opponents so far this season face North East Stars, beaten 3-1 by Jabloteh, nine days ago.

Stars has been the busiest club in the windon with the addition of no fewer than nine players inclusive of former T&T World Cup duo, Anthony Wolfe and Kerry Baptiste as well as Ryan Stewart from CNG National Super League runner-up Guaya United.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), Morvant Caledonia United hosts Jabloteh at Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar from 4pm while W Connection, fresh off oif topping its CFU Club Championship Group One qualifiers at Couva on Sunday night with three wins from as many matches tangle with Police FC at the same venue from 6pm
