THRTA head elected to regional group

Brian Frontin, CEO of the Trinidad Hotels, Restaurant and Tourism Association (THRTA) has been elected treasurer of the Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives (CSHAE). 

The elections took place at the group’s annual general meeting and Leadership Conference last month prior to Caribbean Travel Marketplace at Atlantis Paradise Island in The Bahamas Association, executives from 15 national hotel and tourism associations were in attendance.

The other members of the new CSHAE executive committee are Neil Forrester, general manager, Antigua Hotels & Tourism Association, who was elected president; Stacey Cox, association executive, Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association, first vice president and president-elect; Irene Dingjan, CEO, Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association, secretary; and Gilda Gumbs-Samuel, executive director, Anguilla Hotel & Tourism Association, who holds the position of chairman having served as president for the 2014-16 term.

Other members of the board of directors are Sue Springer, executive vice president, Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association; Jim Hepple, president and CEO, Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association; and Stephen Todd, CEO, Bermuda Hotel Association

“I appreciate the vote of confidence from the other association executives in electing me President of CSHAE and look forward to working with everyone to implement the strategic plans of both CSHAE and CHTA,” said Forrester.

As part of the CSHAE AGM, the executives participated in training workshops which focused on volunteer development led by CHTA’s director of communications Adriana Serna. The association executives developed strategic plans for each country to implement for 2016-2019. 

Additionally, participants developed a CSHAE action plan that incorporates the strategic plans of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA).

CSHAE is a professional association whose members include the top executives and senior managers from the region’s private-sector led hotel and tourism-related organisations. 

Its primary focus is to serve as a network for the region’s associations by supporting the professional development of the staff and voluntary leadership; facilitating the gathering and flow of information; advancing programmes in support of regional advocacy and product improvement efforts; and working collaboratively with the CHTA in achieving mutual goals.
