T&T’s long distance runner Nicholas Landeau has landed a sponsorship contract with Bankers Insurance and sees it as critical in his bid to qualify for the next Olympics in Rio this year. Landeau, who holds the national record in the 1,500m and is ranked second in the 800m, will be trying to qualify for the latter event at the Olympics.

Speaking to Guardian Media, Landeau said: “I have gotten a contract from Bankers Insurance and this would go a long way in helping me achieve my goals.

“They have come out and decided to help me and this is fantastic because so many companies come on board, when you reach somewhere but they are not around when you are struggling in the earlies.

“Bankers is investing in the future of the athletes and this is wonderful. They saw something in me and they have decided to come on board and assist me in achieving my future goals.”

As part of Landeau’s contract with Bankers Insurance, he would have to visit schools to lecture to children about the value of sport in their development.

CEO of Bankers Insurance Vance Gabriel said: “I am very happy that we have Nicholas on board, he has done well and we observed this and wanted to further assist him.

“What we want to do as well, is also to get him to pass on his success story to other young people, so that they can find a path as well.”
