PM Rowley, Mau Pau pledges $35,000 to Walcott’s expenses

Help keeps rolling for 2013 Carifta chess champion Della Marie Walcott, who slipped into a coma after having a tumour removed from her brain in December.

Stepping up this week were the Office of the Prime Minister and Mau Pau Members Club making contributions of $25,000 and $10,000, respectively, towards financial assistance for medical expenses incurred at St Clair Medical Hospital.

A release was sent yesterday from the Office of the Prime Minister said: “It is the sincere hope ofthe OPM that other corporate and private citizens will contribute to this and other deserving causes in T&T.

Anyone interested in supporting the fundraising efforts to offset the mounting medical expenses, while she recovers in ICU, can do so by making a donation at any branch of Republic Bank Ltd to the “Friends of Della-Marie Walcott” account—AC # 180801224831. 

Guardian Media also understands that a number of schools are hosting fundraising events to assist the athlete.

Tickets are worth $45 and can be purchased by contacting the T&T Chess Association and Debra Cuthbert (687-2146); movie fundraiser at MovieTowne on March 22. The selected movie is “Capture the flag.” 

Tickets will be $150 and made available very soon.
