In May 2015, I penned a letter that directed attention to what I had dubbed “The Jewel of the East”—Trincity, which after 50 years, has become a “development of prime attraction.” In so doing, I paid tribute to the “pioneers” whose perseverance has resulted not only in an “amalgam of housing areas designed to meet the demands of residents of varying income levels but also boast an internationally-recognised golf course and a hotel.” In addition, mention was of course made of the many business and socially-oriented organisations which have contributed to making Trincity the jewel of the East.
In particular, my letter directed attention to the Trincity Mall, which is reputed to be now “the largest of its kind in the Caribbean.” Unfortunately, with respect to the mall itself, I could not help making an urgent request of the management of the mall, ie the need to have the roads and parking areas therein paved. This request applied to the eastern car park in particular, which was then and still remains littered with potholes of muddy water and deep chasms.
In my letter I had asked the authorities and the residents of Trincity to be vigilant in ensuring that “a history of allowing our heritage structures and developments do not fall into decadence.”
I am therefore pleased that I am writing this letter of complaint at the behest of a long-standing resident of Trincity. Some time ago I was led to understand that the owners of the mall, Eastern Commercial Lands Ltd, were about to have corrective work done on the roads, parking areas and on the verges in the vicinity of the mall. If so, the sooner the later. It amazes me, however, that the tenants of the mall appear to be “sitting ducks” in all this.
Does it not occur to them that their interests demand that they seek not only to have corrective work done on the unsatisfactory state of the eastern parking area but also the serious shortage of parking spaces generally, (which was evident during the Christmas period, signifying what appears to be bludgeoning sales), addressed?
