Missing out on a golden opportunity with Carnival

To the blindfolded political party activists and supporters, I wish to kindly ask that you consider the fact that regardless of how we vote, we have to face the challenges of survival together.

To the patriots who continue to offer solutions daily through your letters and blogs, I say continue, as there is every possibility that someone somewhere will sift through the many suggestions and eventually seek to implement some of them.

These are hard times but a fantastic time for us to unite along the common goal of rebuilding our nation.

Together we can work on ensuring our communities are safe through co-operation with law enforcement officers and intolerance of wrong-doers.

The Government must set an example by ensuring that there is no haven for wrong doers among their appointees.

The Prime Minister has a reputation for being bold and forthright in his condemnation of corruption and one expects the during his term in office corruption will be reduced.

We therefore expect that suggestions like the commercialisation of Chacachacare, parking meters, multiple and easy access to pay taxes and other government charges like traffic violations, licensing fees duties and customs tariffs are taken on board.

I am perplexed in trying to understand the response of both major political parties to Carnival.

At Carnival almost every hotel room in Trinidad and later, Tobago, is filled. The car rental companies rent most of their cars and souvenir shops, travel agencies and the local airline all see tremendous increase in their business.

Consequently, there is a major increase in the inflow of foreign income (real money).

Certainly, Carnival should be a major area for development, investment and marketing. There is a reason why New York City markets Times Square and Paris markets the Eiffel Tower; they recognise the positive financial impact of tourism.

Pan and Carnival are diamonds in the rough and I expect the Government to do the necessary polishing.

God bless our nation.
