Blame WICB for Gayle fiasco

Mr Chris Gayle was out of place. He exposed the arrogance and incompetence of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). He got no support from the WICB.

They are to be blamed for not educating the players in:

1. protocol;

2. in what they say on a world platform;

3. on their deportment;

4. on their status as Ambassadors for the West Indies;

5. being patriotic.

These unseen necessary permanent qualities are now sadly missing from our education and “broughtupcy.” What he said and did in the interview is acceptable in any part of the West Indies. Not so in the United States of America, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom and other countries, especially on a world television station.

Unfortunately, he will pay a heavy price because of the failures of the WICB, which exudes no respect to anything or anyone and a total dictatorial attitude.

Their selectors pick the team and captain. The WICB does not. The duties of the board include working for and developing the game of cricket administratively and financially.

The Board works for the Caribbean people and should ensure a unifying and harmonious spirit in every island. The board does not interfere with the selection of the best players and the best team to represent the people of the Caribbean. Each player must be taught this in order to ensure his understanding of patriotism.

Chris Gayle’s actions and behaviour is but one of the many examples of the total failure of the WICB. How I miss the exemplary projection, deportment, humility and genius of Sir Frank Worrell, Mr Conrad Hunt, Mr Clive Lloyd, Mr Joe Solomon, Mr Joey Carew and Mr Wes Hall.
