Prime Minister Rowley is willing to meet with trade union leaders and other stakeholders at mutually convenient times in the interest of the development of T&T, the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said yesterday.

It responded to a Q&A article in yesterday’s Guardian in which Mr Michael Annisette, the general secretary of the National Trade Union Centre of Trinidad and Tobago (NATUC), stated that “the Prime Minister was too busy to meet” to discuss ideas for taking the economy forward.

Reference is made to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian newspaper article on page A15 dated Monday December 28th, 2015 headlined “Wage freeze could lead to chaos”

The OPM noted that NATUC met with the ministers of finance and labour expressed a desire to meet with Prime Minister Keith Rowley. In the statement, the OPM said Annisette was advised that he should make the request in writing to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and include a proposed agenda for the meeting.

“The OPM acknowledges receipt of correspondence from NATUC requesting a meeting, however a proposed agenda was not included. OPM is still awaiting the proposed agenda which will facilitate constructive discussions.”
