Listen to Burmese Whisper

Burmese Whisper finally gets a clear-cut opportunity in the Maiden Auction Stakes over five furlongs of Southwell fibresand today and I’ll bet this Approve colt takes it and gains victory at the ninth attempt!

We’re sticking with Burmese Whisper because he’s been beset with so many problems; wide draws, unlucky-in-running spring to mind. Last week Andrew Balding’s charge was squeezed out when attempting to challlenge between Zeeoneandonly and Hearmenow in a six furlongs claimer on Chelmsford polytrack.

At first reading it appeared Burmese Whisper was again unable to quicken at a vital stage, but a replay illustrated, quite clearly, that jockey Oisin Murphy was wise to ease back or risk being brought down. He who runs away lives to fight another day was probably in the back of his mind.
Obvious danger is David Barron-trained Wolowitz but an absence 0f 185 days, during which time he’s been gelded, could be a negative; there again he could be a cert!

Experienced Barron is a master of all-weather racing and requirements, his record at this Nottinghamshire course bears close inspection. Wolowitz was among a batch he journeyed from his Thirsk base last week to work on the deep stuff!

That doesn’t mean to say he’ll act on it any better than Burmese Whisper and indeed Barron might have a nursery in mid for Wolowitz, an Intense Focus gedling which will qualify for handicaps on the back of this ‘third run!

According to my time-handicap, now in good form, the issue rests between Wolowitz and my nap, Burmese Whisper! Since AWR started way back in 1989 we’ve both enjoyed spectacular success at this superbly laid out racetrack. I’ve always feared Barron but he also fears me!
