Well done, Dr Rowley

The response to the termination of the Central Bank Governor is flowing, as is to be expected, right down party and tribal lines, but I for one stand and applaud the Prime Minister for the action that he has taken.

No one should be above the law and no one should be allowed to use public office in service of their own personal agendas, and if this is the tone of this new administration then Dr Keith Rowley is on the right track.

This is how it is supposed to work. We are duty bound to insist on the highest of integrity and respect for office from public office holders and, wherever compromised, the response must be firm and decisive action that puts public trust back into public institutions.

The Prime Minister needs to be aware that he has put himself into a position where future responses must be seen to be even handed. Having set the bar this high this early, he is now tied to future actions that must demonstrate unequivocally to all and sundry that none of his decisions can be ascribed to overtly-political motives. That no one in his administration or in any public office should consider themselves above the law, and that abuse of public office would not be tolerated under any circumstance whatsoever on his watch.
