Former T&T cricketer Carl Furlonge died last Friday at the age of 83.
Confirming his passing was his son David, who also played for T&T in First Class cricket. David who is now coach of Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) said his father was ailing for a while and finally succumbed to his illness last Friday at his Hibiscus Drive, Petit Valley, home.
His funeral takes place tomorrow from 9.30 am at St Andrews RC Church, Petit Valley. Carl played a total of 15 matches for T&T and scored 551 runs at an average of 22.95, with three half centuries. The left hander’s best effort was 99.
In addition to his son also playing for T&T, Carl’s two brothers Kenneth Furlonge and Hammond Furlonge also donned the red cap for T&T. The family made a tremendous contribution to the cricketing landscape of T&T, Maple and Queen’s Park.
Carl’s First Class career spanned the period 1952 to 1971. After his playing days for T&T he turned out for Maple Cricket Club and helped with the development of the young players on the team.
