Captain Jenille Adams led Marvellites to a dominant performance in the bpTT Mayaro Netball League during the 2015 season by winning every major division of the competition, which came to an end at the Mayaro Indoor Sports Facility last weekend.
The Marvellites team thrilled the crowds and overwhelmed the competition on their way to capturing the League, Knockout, Big-Four and Round Robin titles.
Adams, daughter of former standout national player Bridget Adams, was ecstatic about her team’s performance. “We have dominated this competition for the past five years and that is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the players who practise and play with all their hearts. We have a great time playing in the Mayaro League and we look forward to this league growing so that we can have even more competition to make us better,” she said.
The Shockers also performed well, having won the March Past competition and placed second in the League and Big-Four competitions. Shockers’ dynamic duo of sisters Emily and Ebony Taylor also captured the major individual awards with Emily winning Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Defensive Player. Ebony won the Most Goals Scored award.
Matthew Pierre, community liaison officer of sponsors bpTT, noted that the energy company was proud to play a pivotal role in the development of sport over the years in its home community of Mayaro, having sponsored the community netball, basketball, football and cricket leagues. He also commended the Mayaro Netball Association for their efforts in nurturing young talent and for keeping the league alive for the past 26 years.
Association president Allison Philbert-Acosta thanked all the teams for their high level of play and the demonstration of fair play during the season. “I want to thank bpTT especially for partnering with us to develop netball in Mayaro and provide opportunities for young people to fulfill their sporting potential at the local and even national levels. We look forward to partnering with them as we take this competition into the future,” Philbert-Acosta said.
