Governor’s revelations a national service

What a sad day when the press would print such a headline “Jwala must go” implying that this is a national sentiment rather than an outrageous statement from David Abdulah, who some may describe as a “political never been.”

If the statement had been made by the Prime Minister or Finance Minister it may have deserved such prominence. However, it is probably easier for reporters to get a statement from a “nobody” than do the hard work and get the opinion of a more reliable source.

In spite of all the criticism from the business and government circles, Mr Rambarran has done an important national service by informing the population where their precious foreign money has been spent. If it were the business sectors’ money we could understand their chagrin, however, the foreign exchange belongs to the Government and by extension the people of T&T, and we have a right to know where and on what it is being spent.

It is unfortunate that job losses and other events are slowly bringing home the message that the economy is in dire straits and we should start tightening our belts as a former Prime Minister said, before it is too late. How are we going to keep up the payments on the thousands of luxury cars that we import when we lose our job; surely the TV that we have can last another year rather than being thrown by the roadside and replaced with a new smart flat screen?

It is unfortunate that Rambarran will probably eventually be forced out of office due to the continued pressure against his actions and he will probably be replaced by a Governor who is likely to be more sympathetic to the ruling party’s wishes rather than the interest of the people of T&T.
