Out-of-favour West Indies left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul grabbed five wickets in the second innings to lead Guyana to its fourth win in as many matches and stay on top of the West Indies Cricket Board Professional Regional Four-Day League.

Permaul snatched 5/62 to dismiss T&T for 216 in the second innings after starting the final day on 51/2 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of –Spain, as Guyana wrapped up an impressive victory by an innings and 49 runs before tea.

The future of Guyana spin bowling is in good hands as 20-year-old Gudakesh Motie took 4/43 in 20.3 overs after going wicketless in the first innings.

A 104-run third wicket partnership between Barbadian Kyle Hope and Guyanese Narsingh Deonarine gave the Red Force a glimmer of hope, but when both batsmen were dismissed shortly before lunch, Red Force went limp.

After playing confidently, Deonarine was the first to fall, caught by Shimron Hetmyre of Motie for 47 off 100 balls. His knock included eight fours. Permaul then got his first scalp of the morning when Hope was caught by wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble for a top score of 74.

Hope, older brother of West Indies opener Shai, faced 146 balls and cracked 13 fours. T&T got to 146/4 at lunch still trailing Guyana by 119 runs.

Permaul continued to slice his way through the T&T batting after lunch as the score soon read 163/7 as Yannick Ottley (duck), captain Jason Mohammed (12) and Imran Khan all fell in quick succession. With no addition to the lunchtime score, Ottley was bowled behind his back by Permaul attempting a sweep.

Mohammed was adjudged lbw to Motie to give the youngster his  second wicket. Khan never seemed settled at the crease. First he was dropped by Guyana skipper Leon Johnson at first slip of Permaul, but in the same over, Khan gave another chance and this time Johnson held the catch.

Steven Katwaroo and Marlon Richards took Red Force along fairly comfortably until Permaul got his fifth wicket when Katwaroo was trapped lbw to a full pitched delivery to end a 24-run partnership.

Uthman Muhammad then joined Richards, the pair frustrated the Guyana bowlers in the first innings with a 108-run ninth wicket partnership.  However, there was no repeat of the rescue act as Motie dismissed Richards to end the four-run stand.

Debutant Muhammed, who posted his maiden half century in the first innings, entertained for a brief moment to get T&T past 200. He was then the last man out, caught at long off going for another big shot.

T&T will aim to bounce back against the Windward Islands in round five starting on Friday at Beausejour in St Lucia. Guyana will aim to remain unbeaten when they travel to Sabina Park to face Jamaica.
