Seb Lear from team Esher, the men’s champion and Ciara Malone of the women winners Aptoella Angels, were adjudged the Top Men’s and Women’s Players of the 2015 Tobago International Rugby 7s Tournament which took place at the Black Rock Recreational Grounds, Courland, Tobago over the weekend.
Both also led their teams to the overall team titles. Lear’s Esher won back to back men’s titles. The English team defeated Northeast Academy 12-7 in the men’s Championship finals on Sunday.
Malone and her Aptoella Angels’ team-mates of Canada secured the women’s crown by whipping American outfit Atlantis 19-0 in the grand finale. THA Deputy Chief Secretary and Secretary of Tourism and Transportation Tracey Davidson-Celestine presented the Canadians with the Department of Tourism Cup and the winners’ prize o US$6,000, while Esher walked away wight he TDC Cup and US$3,000.
Captain of local team Exile Leon Pantor was named the Most Promising Player. The St. Benedicts College graduate led Exile to fourth place.
Tournament’s debutants Nassau Renegades of Bahamas won the Most Social Team prize. The teams received their prizes at the tournament’s closing ceremony at the Shade Night Club in Bon Accord following the on field action.
